We’re proud to announce the launch of the Derby Changemakers Project, a powerful new collaboration with local organisations and businesses to support vital campaigns across the county.
The first campaign of the Derby Changemakers Project will be aimed at tackling violence against women and girls, following a significant rise in cases both locally and nationally.
An estimated 736 million women—almost one in three—have been subjected to physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence, non-partner sexual violence, or both at least once in their life. These are figures that we simply cannot ignore, which is why we have committed to utilising our unique skillsets as behaviour change marketers to make a difference where we can, for current and future generations of women in Derbyshire and beyond.
In December, we presented our proposed campaign to local business owners at a Marketing Derby event, where the ‘Derby Changemakers’ title was also agreed on by a vote. Our presentation included an informational video by Derby Youth Alliance, as well as contributions from SV2, a Derbyshire charity that supports victims of sexual abuse, and Safe & Sound, who support young people and families whose lives have been affected by child exploitation. We’re thrilled to report that the presentation was a success, resonating with many of the attendees and generating a massive amount of support for the cause.
“Sexual violence simply shouldn’t exist and no one should deal with it alone. The stark reality is however that the incidence of sexual abuse rises year on year and, in Derbyshire, SV2 supported 955 children, young people and adults between March 2022 and March 2023 which is a significant increase compared with the previous year.” – Rachel Morris, CEO of SV2.
“We do a lot of behaviour change work with organisations that are doing incredible work, both preventing violence against women and supporting survivors of sexual abuse and domestic abuse. As part of this work, we were shocked to discover just how many women suffer violence every single day in the UK, and the devastating impact it has on their lives. It’s for this reason, for these women and girls, that we are going to do all in our power to create a campaign that changes behaviour for good.” – Anna Hutton, Director of Communications and Behaviour Change at MacMartin.
We’re so proud to be fronting Derby Changemakers, and we’d like to thank everyone who has supported this first campaign and the Changemakers project as a whole.
