domestic abuse education campaign

Helping break the pattern.

Freeva works to support children and families affected by domestic abuse. Together, we focused on one critical moment: early understanding. Many children exposed to abuse don’t recognise it as harmful. Without the right language or support, those patterns can follow them into later life. Schools are often where trust lives. So, we designed a campaign to support children – and the adults who care for them.

Breaking cycles of abuse before they take hold.

Children witnessing abuse at home may:

  • Struggle to recognise unhealthy behaviour
  • Lack language to talk about safety and feelings
  • Feel unsure about who they can trust

At the same time, teachers and school staff often find themselves acting as first responders – without always having the tools or confidence to manage disclosures.

Our work needed to do two things, equally well:

01.

Educate children, gently and safely.

02.

Equip schools to respond with care and confidence.

Supporting both sides of the conversation.

Grounded in behavioural science, we designed a domestic abuse education campaign that worked at two levels:

  • Early, age-appropriate education for children
  • Practical, clear guidance for educators

The focus wasn’t fear.
It was understanding, reassurance, and action.

Nothing overwhelming.
Everything supportive.

01.

Child-friendly learning materials

Lesson plans, assembly packs, activity sheets, posters, stickers and classroom resources – all created to help children understand healthy relationships and know where to seek help.
02.

A comprehensive teacher toolkit

Clear guidance to support sensitive conversations and manage disclosures appropriately.
03.

Training pathways

Promotion of Freeva’s specialist disclosure training, helping school staff feel prepared and supported.

04.

A supporting social campaign

Digital content to raise awareness and encourage uptake across local schools.

Why it worked.

Because it met people where they are.

It didn’t lecture children.
It didn’t overwhelm schools.

It gave both the language, tools, and confidence they needed – at the moment it mattered most.

Change is difficult. We make it possible.

Tell us what you’re working towards – we’ll help you move it forward.
